You're very brave! I'd be afraid to take on such a big project! Can't wait to see how he'll look when he's complete. ^_^

Its not that huge!! I try at least to do a couple hundred stitches on it every day (most times more) which isn't that much!! I have a table/lap stand that allows me to stitch with 2 hands-- thus I stitch faster!!

Yep-- 2 hands!!
I have one hand above pushing the needle down and one below pushing the needle up!
Which makes things go really fast!! Smile Your also not using one hand twisting constantly.... which is better for my wrist!!

I must try that next time. I thought you sew with 2 separate threads on two places.. you would have to have two brains then. Laughing

I know some people keep multiple needles in there work... but my little brain wouldn't be able to handle that one!! LOLOLOL

haha I would make so many mistakes if i was stitching with 2 needles. When i was stitching Sora I was borrowing a frame to stitch with. It was so much easier to stitch when you didn't have to hold it.

I would mainly get many injuries from more than 1 needle. I use pins to hold the edges of my work so threads don't leave all the time so sometimes I get hurt on those too.

Sherri you could you painters tape to hold the edges-- its just sticky enough to hold the edges-- and it comes off without leave a sticky mess like masking tape.

I use masking tape and when I frame it I leave the tape on there so the aeda doesn't fray. I know there are people who don't but how do you keep it from fraying?

I don't usually put anything around the edges at all.....Never needed too. I just make it slightly bigger around the edges just in case.
I find masking tape to be too sticky if you needed to tape it. Painters tape is perfect because it is only 1/2 the sticky -- and it just needs to prevent fraying.

hmmmm any time I have not taped the edges It has always frayed. It may be a different in size count. I always use 22 count. What size do you use?

I use 25, I take the lower the number the easier it falls apart?

Right now I only stitch on 14 or 16 counts. I haven't been able to stitch on 18 or 22 count yet because it cramps up my wrist still. It doesn't fray on me because It goes from the package or bolt-- machine sewn on my bars for my stand. I don't rub the edges with my hand or arm that might loosen the edges. Smile

Hmm I guess the ultimate way to never have fraying on something small is to stitch them like missy-tannenbaum's standees on plastic aeda.

Aww this is looking gorgeous Very Happy
I usually sew over the edges to prevent fraying, it takes a long time and can be aggrivating, but its pleasing to the eye and its worked so far Very Happy

Ah, you mean fixing the work after it is done.. When I do a picture, I frame it, so no speial treatment is needed, and when it is a tablecloth I fold it and sew, of course.

You can also sew around the edges with a sewing machine-- zig zags!
It wouldn't take very long to do either!!

Wow, the Hitsugaya looks really cool so far! I love how you can see the side of his head shaping up like it is, and the ice is gorgeous. ^^

Also, I'm not sure if this'll work like I'm thinking it will, but-

It's true that the plastic canvas never frays, which is fantastic, but the perforated plastic canvas also has disadvantages, since it limits the size of your project and makes it really difficult to do fractionals. I love using it for smaller projects, since I've had a few patches go wonky on the edges, but for bigger ones, I think I'd still go with normal fabric in most situations. Still, I bet there are ways to connect the pieces, like you can with larger plastic canvases, and eliminate the size limitations, making it even better. Sometimes, I also see a vinyl aida available, and while I personally hated stitching on it (it made my hands sweat in the middle of winter!) it has the anti-fray durability of perforated plastic canvas with the flexibility and larger size of normal Aida cloth.

Wow you are seriously putting some time into this. I guess working on it every day helps. I wish I could put the time into my cross stitch but with school starting and going into the Christmas season at work I am just trying to find time to breath T.T

I think I will just stick with framing my patterns. I always buy cheep ones but they look so much better if you give them away or hang them on your wall. I always have the problem with sweaty hands though. I always have to wash my cross stitches before I iron and frame them just because of holding them the whole time.
