I admired it already on dA.. however, I find it interesting how you can sew in these regular blocks. My works of this kind are always random - I sew everything first with one colour, then another etc.

this is awesome in so many ways
but I totally agree with Sherri: how can you sew in blocks? don't you get messed up with the threads? I only do smaller things but even then I stick to one color then the next...I am very curious about how this'll look once it's done

Thanks!! I have gotten a little more done on it since then!!

It still doesn't look normal to me yet!! The blues ice are not all stitched yet. I'm waiting until the end of the month before I make a huge order of floss just in case I need more of the colours I'm stitching with right now. No point paying shipping twice!!

I have to slowly work around what I'm stitching!! I go page by page and I mark with a highligher all the stitches I have completed. This pattern is about 160 x160 stitches and has 80 some colours ---25ish different blues and about 25 different grey type colours. There are lots of single, doubles and triples stitches. I first to do and huge chunks of colour and then slowly work on the rest around that. This requires less counting in the end!!!

So working with just one colour doesn't work for this pattern. I don't like getting too far ahead what I'm stitching because I REALLY hate making mistakes. The dozen stitches I had to pull out yesterday.....really made me mad because it was such a stupid mistake.
Here is a small up close pic of the area I'm current working on -- I'm not sure how many different symbols there are.......... but its alot!!!!

I have stitching for 15 years now. Doesn't bother me now that a pattern has a billion colours!!!
Smile

<------ I think the floramon as 12 different colours in it!!!!! LOLOLOL

Everyone has a system that works for them!! It also depends on the pattern too!!

I was given advice that I should work on stitching 10x10 square and do the next one and so on.
I hated doing it that way..... because sometimes there was an extra 6 stitches in the next square -- so it was rather pointless to do it that way!!
So far each page I have done as lined up perfectly!! So I won't change how I'm doing it!!

Aha, you do it page by page, that makes sense. I didn't realize the pattern must be huge.

yeah
one should always work the way it works best for him^^
when I started I was told not to leave more than 5 blank squares and instead take a new thread...I abandoned that rule long ago because there were sometimes just one lonely cross^^
it's still haunting me sometimes, though XD

It depends.. I try to leave the lonely crosses till last so I can join them with the rest without making a mess in the back.

I don't care either, but less mess means less trouble for me. And I am lazy to start a new thread too. heh

It doesn't matter too much!! That will get better in time--

I really take care and make sure all my stitches are faced in the right direction!!
I'm really picky over this..... my sister in law tries to find any messed up stitches because I'm constantly bugging her to stitch so her stitches face all in in one direction!! Razz

ah yeah, I am quite strict with myself on that part as well^^
but as long as all stitches look the same the back is unimportant

Yes, it makes the work a lot neater if everything is the same. In the middle of Cisqua's face I discovered one X opposite... just a few seconds after I cut the thread. Of course I had to redo it... it was visible!

I used to be the same way. The back of my Sora looks like a total mess. I have become more picky about skipping skipping spaces after I saw my older neighbors stitching. The back of her pieces look prettier than the fronts. So it's giving me something else to work on.

Actually I started stitching by blocks on some of my big pieces because when I was just stitching one color didn't seem like I was getting anywhere, but if you do it by block it seems like you get so much more done.

You order your thread online? How close do you live to a craft store?

P.S. OMG O.O your progress is totally making me wish I had the time to put into my cross stitch. It looks sooo fantastic!

Yes...ordering online is cool!!! Its easier and I can get all the colours I need too.

The only floss that is sold here is Anchor and they never have the colours I want ever!!!!
The only closest major craft store (Micheal's) is an hour away. So ordering via the interent is ALOT cheaper to do. You can also get better deals when you order bulk adia too. I'm going to also see if my local fabric store sells adia because I might even get a better deal. I want a yard of it so I dont need to buy for a long time..plus I'm getting into the huge projects now!! Smile
