PostSubject: My OSHC Hikaru wip   Sat Sep 05, 2009 5:36 pm

I'm at this stage for now:

If you wanna, you can check my step-by-step because I had fun making a photo in the end of everyday work. ->link <-
But I have to say I think about droping this and starting again from the beginning. Reason: It's made with half-crosses and I'm not sure I like the result. I definitely like the full crosses better. And if I decide to finish Hikaru this way, I'll have to make Kaoru the same. The Hitachiin twins are my favourites from Ouran Host Club, so I really want to make them properly. For now I haven't decided yet....

Couldn't you stitch the 1/2 stitches to make it a full stitch????

I tried - on the lighter part of the right leg - but it gets very bulky. I made 1/2stitches with 3 strands so it can fill, when for a full stitch would normally use 2. Maybe a new beginning really will be the best thing to do.

That's cool! It was fun to look at the step-by-steps on your blog, too! Whatever you decide to do about the half crosses, I hope it works out, too! ^^ Sometimes, it's worth the ripping out to have a pleasing final project.

Well, I don't know... the monkey with the chainsaw would be a lot faster than traditional stitch removal, at least. XD

I see, this half stitch is interesting, and it looks good when it is small.. I must try it one day! It looks good this way, I would leave it so. Smile

1/2 stitching is really good for blue sky, clouds, grass or big areas you are trying to fill in.
You can also 2 different floss colours too!! gives a cool effect!

Half stitch
Baisically the name says it all - you're doing the one half of the cross stitch. Nya, but since I'me the one complaining about half stitches, I'm nit really the best one to explain how it works. Embarassed

Ahhh I thought it was that but when I saw your picture I didn't think it was half stitch because I thought It would look like a bunch of lines instead of a block of color like a full stitch does. Though looking at that website made me realize a very important thing. I have been stitching backwards for 10 years o.O When I started my mother told me that it doesn't matter which way you do it as long as you do all of it the same way. So all of my pieces are right to left.

Direction doesn't matter too much. It doesn't affect your stitches does it??? They still look flat???

Yep the stitches look flat and i guess only someone who cross stitches would really notice a difference. I think trying to switch the way I stitch now would be like trying to learn how to write with my other hand.

I stitch the 'wrong way' as well...but I don't think it really matters^^
since I am left handed I don't know how I'd get it done the other way round^^
thus I think no one will notice, even if they are really into it

I want to learn stitch up and down.... the backs seems to be neater in the end.
I have seen peoples finished pieces backs and its so neat!!! I think I will try it for my piece to see if I like it more!! I might go back to my old way tho!! Smile

The older lady who lived next door to me growing up stitched up and down. But it wasn't really up and down she just turned it side ways why she stitched so she was stitching left to right. But when you turned it right side up the back was up and down. She said it helped her get things done faster because you aren't evaluating the picture when it is sideways.
