I follow some other cross-stitching forums and in one a read that if you run your thread through a dryer sheet (or simply a tissue that has been soaked in fabric conditioner and then let dry up) you can prevent the floss form tangling and tying in knots. Also, they said the final result, after washing the piece of cross-stitch/embroidery, looks nicer, sleek and shiny.
Have any of you tried this? It sounds pretty tempting for me if it's true, because sometimes I have the feeling that half of my thread and time goes to waste because of the knots. Especially when I'm using some older floss I have from my grand mother.

I wouldn't bother doing it!!
Just let go of the needle time to time. What happens is the threads twist and it causes knots.
I rarely have the problem with the lap stand -- I never get knots.

Just give it a try-- It wouldn't hurt!! You can let us know if it works!!
I'm not sure it will work because when you stitch you are constantly twisting the threads!!

I'll give it a try. I couldn't find dryer sheets right now, so now I'm waiting for my home made ones to dry Laughing

Right now I'm stitching using "softened" threads and maybe it's just me, but I think I really am getting some results lol! The floss seams to go more easily through the holes and I'm getting less knots than usual. And even if I get one, it's far easier to unknot it. So I think I'll continue with this trick Laughing At the very least, the whole cross-stitch now smells nice lol!
